Woodpigeon for dinner

A sparrow hawk visited out garden - it happens quite frequently - and took a woodpigeon. However something must have disturbed it whilst it was plucking its meal as it abandoned the pigeon partially plucked and flew off. Although sparrow hawks have usually returned within 24 hours to continue their meal this one had not made a reappearance after 2 days.

Rather than waste the pigeon I took it to a clearing in the middle of a wood, near a small gate I have set up for, and which is used as, a perch by raptors and owls. The next day it was spotted by a pair of buzzards who fed off the pigeon over two days, and sometimes fought each other over dining rights.
