Muntjac Deer
Muntjac deer were introduced into the UK in the early 1900s, and are considered to have been originally introduced into Woburn Park in Bedfordshire from China. They are found commonly across the south of England, especially on the eastern side. The bucks have two very short straight antlers and curiously also a pair of long canine teeth. Muntjac are small stocky deer with a short stubby tail. They are sometimes called the “barking deer” as they have a loud call just like a dog barking, which sometimes sounds alarming in the dead of night.
